Matternet has appointed Sanjay Shah, Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Starbucks, to its Board of Directors, strengthening its operational leadership as the company scales its drone delivery network across global markets.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time for the drone delivery specialist, as the industry transitions from early-stage deployments to fully scaled, everyday logistics infrastructure. Andreas Raptopoulos, Founder and CEO of Matternet, said Shah’s extensive experience in building and managing complex global supply chains will play a key role in the company’s next phase of growth.
“Drone delivery is entering a new phase, moving from early commercial deployments to scaled, everyday infrastructure,” Raptopoulos said. “Sanjay’s expertise in operating large-scale networks and executing complex logistics strategies will be instrumental as we expand our platform globally.”
Shah brings decades of experience across supply chain, fulfilment and operations, having held senior leadership roles at companies including Gopuff, Beyond Meat, Tesla, Amazon and Dell. He joined Starbucks in 2025, where he currently leads the company’s global supply chain operations.
Commenting on his appointment, Shah said: “Matternet has built a unique technology platform that integrates aircraft, ground infrastructure and software to automate delivery end-to-end. I am delighted to join the Board and look forward to helping scale the network to meet the logistics needs of large enterprise customers.”
His addition to the Board is expected to enhance Matternet’s operational and supply-chain capabilities as it expands its commercial drone delivery platform across healthcare, food and retail sectors.
Matternet is already advancing its footprint in key markets. The company recently partnered with SoftBank Robotics America and launched operations with the UK’s National Health Service, connecting two major Central London hospital campuses through aerial delivery routes designed to transport critical medical supplies within minutes.
As it continues to grow, Matternet is also expanding collaborations across healthcare providers, restaurant chains, retailers and direct-to-consumer delivery services, positioning itself as a leading player in the future of autonomous logistics.
