Avianca has reaffirmed its long-standing role as a strategic partner to Medellín and the wider Antioquia region, where the airline has operated for more than 90 years.
As part of this commitment, Avianca maintains year-round operations, linking Medellín with more than 25 domestic and international destinations while supporting the region’s economic and social development.
In 2025, the airline achieved a historic milestone, carrying over 7 million passengers on more than 43,000 flights to and from the city. This strong performance has continued into 2026, with more than 3 million passengers transported across over 22,000 flights during the first half of the year.
Flower Festival operations boost capacity
As the official sponsor of Medellín’s iconic Flower Festival, Avianca has announced it will operate more than 400 weekly flights to the city throughout August, responding to heightened travel demand during one of Colombia’s most significant cultural events.
Ángela María Orozco, Avianca’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, said the festival represents one of the country’s most important cultural traditions.
“The Flower Festival reflects the identity and heritage of Antioquia. We are proud of the history we have built with Medellín over more than 90 years. Supporting this celebration reinforces our commitment to regional development and enables us to connect thousands of travellers from Colombia and around the world to a truly unique experience,” she said.
“Throughout August, we will offer more than 400 weekly flights, strengthening connectivity, supporting tourism, and contributing to the economic vitality of a region that has played a key role in our history.”
Cargo operations strengthen flower exports
Avianca Cargo continues to play a vital role in Colombia’s flower export industry. So far in 2026, the airline has transported more than 82,000 tonnes of flowers from the country, including nearly 27,000 tonnes from Medellín to key markets across the Americas and Europe.
These exports are supported by regular cargo services to major hubs such as Miami and Madrid. Avianca Cargo also holds IATA’s CEIV Fresh certification and operates specialised cold-chain infrastructure to ensure the safe handling and preservation of perishable goods.
Diogo Elias, CEO of Avianca Cargo, highlighted Medellín’s importance as a flower export hub.
“Our operations reinforce Medellín’s position as one of the region’s leading flower export centres, bringing Colombian flowers closer to key markets across the Americas and Europe,” he said.
“As Latin America’s leading cargo airline, we continue to provide the capacity, connectivity, and expertise needed to support an industry that showcases the very best of our country.”
