LATAM Cargo has continued to expand its freighter capacity across the Atlantic as it looks to capitalise on buoyant demand.
The Santiago-headquartered airline group has boosted its transatlantic freighter operations from 12 to 15 weekly frequencies – a 25% increase – with the addition of a new service between Brazil and Belgium.
The new operation will operate three times per week between Sao Paulo and Brussels, with a stop in Recife, using one of its Boeing 767 freighters.
“As a result of this expansion, the company will offer 750 tons of weekly capacity aboard its B767-300F freighters, strengthening connectivity between both regions,” LATAM Cargo said in a press release.
The new service marks the cargo division’s first flights between Brazil and Europe. The flights will strengthen “the country’s export network and bring service closer to the main production hubs of northeastern Brazil”.
It will expand to five flights per week by mid-December.
The stop in Recife will enable the export of mangoes produced in Brazil’s northeast, significantly reducing transit times to major European markets.
Additionally, the initial leg from São Paulo will offer capacity for oversized cargo, dangerous goods, and high-volume shipments that require specialised freighter transport.
Santiago Álvarez, chief commercial officer of LATAM Cargo Group, said: “Thanks to the flexibility of our fleet and the coordinated work with our affiliates, we are strengthening our network between Europe and South America, reaching a historic milestone in cargo connectivity between both continents.
“Our focus is to provide customers with logistics solutions that are more agile, reliable, and efficient—facilitating international trade in a continuous and sustainable way.”
