SHEIN and Lufthansa Cargo Sign MoU to Advance Sustainable Air Freight with SAF Adoption

Share

SHEIN, the global online fashion and lifestyle retailer, and Lufthansa Cargo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly advance sustainable air freight solutions, focusing on the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other low-carbon initiatives.

Under the agreement, the two companies will work towards finalizing the adoption of SAF offsetting solutions for SHEIN deliveries within six months, supported by additional initiatives that promote the use of renewable and lower-carbon energy sources across air transport operations.

Driving Measurable Carbon Reduction

As part of the partnership, Lufthansa Cargo will provide SHEIN with externally verified “Proof of Sustainability” certificates for SAF usage. These certificates will transparently document emissions reductions compared to conventional jet fuel, ensuring measurable impact and traceability.

The collaboration will also include efforts around fleet efficiency, logistics optimization, and process quality—key pillars of sustainable supply chain management.

Executive Perspectives

Ethan Shen, SHEIN’s General Manager of Global Fulfillment, said:
“Lufthansa Cargo’s expertise in SAF adoption provides SHEIN with opportunities to pilot and expand lower-carbon air cargo solutions. SAF is one part of a broader decarbonization strategy that also includes optimizing logistics, improving fleet efficiency, and exploring additional low-carbon alternatives.”

Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, added:
“This MoU with SHEIN reinforces Lufthansa Cargo’s commitment to implementing responsible, high-performance logistics solutions. Together, we are driving the development of more sustainable global supply chains in line with our mission: Enabling Global Business.”

Aligned with Broader Decarbonization Goals

The initiative reflects SHEIN’s commitment to addressing its transportation-related carbon footprint while supporting Lufthansa Cargo’s long-term goal of accelerating SAF adoption across global logistics.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward scaling renewable energy use in aviation, advancing both companies’ sustainability roadmaps and contributing to greener international supply chains.
