Roos Bakker is set to make history as the first woman to chair The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), following the upcoming departure of current Chair Steven Polmans, who will step down later this year after leading the organisation since 2019.
Bakker, who currently serves as TIACA’s Vice Chair and Secretary, will take the helm at a pivotal moment for the association, which has undergone significant transformation under Polmans’ leadership.
His tenure saw the organisation through the COVID-19 pandemic, a period of governance reform, and a strategic shift towards becoming a more agile, outward-facing body for the global air cargo industry.
Bakker brings deep industry experience to the role, having spent 17 years at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport before moving to CTSN Group, where she leads Business Development.
Bakker said: “I am so happy and proud of my future new role within TIACA.
“I deeply want to thank the Board for their trust and support—a fantastic and inspiring group of professionals who have been helping TIACA reach new heights for years.”
Her appointment marks a significant milestone for TIACA, which was founded in the early 1990s and has never before had a woman at its helm.
Industry observers say Bakker’s leadership will help drive greater diversity and innovation as the air cargo sector navigates post-pandemic challenges and digital transformation.
