Mexican cargo airline Awesome Cargo has successfully completed its first heavy maintenance C-check entirely in-house, marking a major milestone in its strategy to strengthen internal engineering capabilities and reduce reliance on third-party maintenance providers.
The inspection was conducted under the supervision of Mexicana MRO and approved by Mexico’s civil aviation authority, confirming full compliance with national safety and regulatory standards.
A C-check is among the most comprehensive scheduled maintenance procedures for commercial aircraft, involving detailed inspections of structures, systems and components to ensure continued airworthiness.
Awesome Cargo said the achievement reflects years of investment in technical expertise, workforce training and specialised equipment. The airline credited its engineers, technicians, inspectors and maintenance planners for delivering the project while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
“The capability to maintain your own fleet to the highest standards of safety, precision and discipline must be built. It cannot be leased. It must be earned,” the company stated.
Executing the maintenance programme required significant investment in infrastructure and tooling, including bogie lifting systems, wheelset handling equipment and cranes. These upgrades enable the airline to carry out increasingly complex maintenance tasks independently.
The milestone forms part of Awesome Cargo’s broader strategy to expand its engineering capabilities alongside fleet growth. In the long term, the airline aims to develop its maintenance division into a regional MRO provider, offering services to other carriers.
Although the airline did not disclose details of the aircraft involved or the duration of the programme, the successful completion of the C-check represents a key step towards greater operational self-sufficiency.
