Cathay Group Expands Airbus A350F Order
Hong Kong’s Cathay Group has placed a firm order with Airbus for two additional Airbus A350F freighters, increasing its total commitment for the next-generation cargo aircraft to eight units.
The aircraft will be operated by Cathay Cargo as part of the airline’s long-term fleet modernisation and cargo growth strategy.
Supporting Cargo Growth and Network Expansion
The additional A350F freighters are expected to enhance cargo capacity and operational efficiency across Cathay Cargo’s global network.
Ronald Lam, Chief Executive of the Cathay Group, said the investment will strengthen connectivity at the airline’s Hong Kong hub while providing customers with greater flexibility and choice.
He added that the order reflects the group’s confidence in its long-term growth prospects and supports Cathay Cargo’s ambition to become the world’s leading air cargo carrier.
Advancing Fleet Efficiency and Sustainability
The A350F is Airbus’ new-generation freighter designed to deliver improved fuel efficiency, operational performance and lower emissions compared with previous-generation cargo aircraft.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft, said Cathay’s continued commitment to the aircraft highlights the market’s confidence in the A350F platform.
He noted that the aircraft offers strong operational commonality with Cathay’s existing Airbus fleet while supporting the airline’s broader decarbonisation objectives.
Enhancing Long-Haul Cargo Operations
The A350F is designed to provide:
- Improved fuel efficiency
- Greater payload flexibility
- Enhanced operational economics
- Reduced environmental impact
The aircraft is expected to play a central role in supporting future long-haul cargo demand across Asia, Europe and North America.
Strengthening the Cathay–Airbus Partnership
The latest order further deepens the long-standing partnership between Cathay Group and Airbus as the carrier continues investing in modern, fuel-efficient aircraft to support both passenger and cargo operations.
The expanded A350F fleet will position Cathay Cargo to strengthen its competitiveness in the global air freight market while supporting sustainable growth over the coming years.
