Neste Begins Supplying SAF to FedEx at LAX in First Major U.S. Deployment

FedEx has begun using Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ (SAF) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) under a new agreement with Neste to supply 8,800 metric tons—over three million gallons—of blended SAF. This marks FedEx’s first major U.S. deployment of SAF and represents the largest SAF purchase by a U.S. cargo airline at LAX to date.

The fuel, which includes at least 30% neat SAF, will cover about 20% of FedEx’s annual jet fuel use at LAX. Deliveries began in May 2025 and will continue for one year.

“Procuring SAF is a key part of our strategy to reduce aviation emissions and achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040,” said Karen Blanks Ellis, Chief Sustainability Officer at FedEx. “This agreement with Neste is a meaningful step toward that goal.”

Neste’s SAF, made from 100% renewable waste materials, can reduce life cycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel. It is fully compatible with current aircraft and fueling infrastructure.

Carl Nyberg, SVP at Neste, added, “We’re proud to support FedEx in reducing its environmental impact and advancing sustainable air cargo operations.”
