Oman Air, based in Muscat, has appointed Mike Duggan as its new head of cargo as the airline aims to expand its air cargo business following the delivery of its first freighter in December.
Duggan, who started his career in aviation sales, has accumulated 20 years of experience in air cargo business development, having worked with over 10 companies globally.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Duggan began his new role last month. Before joining Oman Air, he spent four years as the principal of Maeshe Aviation Services, a London-headquartered consultancy focused on business development and project management in the airline, aviation, airfreight, logistics, and supply chain sectors. He previously ran the same business for a year and a half from 2017 to 2018.
Prior to his recent entrepreneurial venture, Duggan served as the director of international cargo business development at Eastern Airlines, a Part 121 US carrier. In this role, he was responsible for optimizing and growing cargo sales related to belly capacity, managing GSA and GHA relationships for routes in South America, China, and Europe, and developing freighter aircraft business. His duties included sourcing aircraft for conversion, studying new aircraft types and conversion programs, negotiating new project flights with express operators and e-commerce businesses in the US, Europe, and Southeast Asia, and conducting route studies and start-up operations for freighter aircraft on major trade lanes.
Duggan’s other previous roles include senior vice president of global airfreight at TVS-Asianics Supply Chain Solutions and director of cargo charters and strategic partnerships at Saudia Cargo.
In December 2023, Oman Air launched its first-ever freighter service between Muscat International Airport and GMR Hyderabad International Airport in India, using its newly acquired 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) delivered in November 2023.
