Maersk appoints new leaders to strengthen air freight division

Maersk has bolstered its air freight leadership team with two senior appointments, as the Danish shipping giant continues to expand its aviation operations.

Christoph Hemmann has been named head of global air and less-than-container load (LCL), succeeding Murali Rajamani, who has moved to another role within the company.

Hemmann, who has more than 15 years of experience in the air freight sector with DHL Global Forwarding and DB Schenker, will report to Narin Phol, Maersk’s executive vice-president and chief product officer for logistics and services.

His appointment also brings a shift in reporting lines, with Lars Jordahn, global head of Maersk Air Cargo, now reporting to Hemmann rather than group chief operating officer Rabab Boulos.

Maersk Air Cargo currently operates 18 Boeing 767 freighters and two new Boeing 777Fs.

Meanwhile, John McDonald has been appointed head of Maersk Air Freight Forwarding (MAFF), replacing John Wetherell, who has left the company.

McDonald brings over 35 years of logistics and air freight expertise, having previously held senior posts at DB Schenker, STG Logistics, UTi Worldwide and CEVA Logistics.

The moves come as Maersk looks to strengthen its position in global logistics by integrating its sea and air freight capabilities.
