Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) is proud to announce a new partnership with Colombian airline Avianca Cargo, which will begin operating two weekly cargo flights between Latin America and Europe starting in October 2025.
The service will be operated using an Airbus A330 aircraft with a maximum payload capacity of 61 metric tonnes. These flights will help to further strengthen MST’s cargo connectivity, particularly in the trade of flowers from South America into Europe, and European clothing exports back to Latin America.
Strategic Rationale & Growth
MST has experienced robust growth in cargo volumes this year. In the first eight months of 2025, the airport reported a 25 % increase in cargo throughput compared to the same period in 2024. The growth has been supported by expanding operations from major players such as Turkish Cargo and Emirates SkyCargo, as well as the introduction of My Freighter and Ethiopian Cargo services.
“With every new route, we increase the international connectivity of our airport,” said Dean Boljuncic, Head of Commercial Development at Maastricht Aachen Airport. “Our team is ready to introduce Avianca to the excellent and unbeatable handling for which MST is known.”
From Avianca’s side, María Ximena Marín Morales, Communication Manager, Business Units, stated:
“In October 2025, we will begin transporting cargo from Latin America to Maastricht, a key connection point, and we look forward to continuing to grow at this strategic hub.”
Network & Trade Impact
The new MST–Avianca route will link Quito, Miami, Maastricht, and Zaragoza, enabling efficient logistics flows between Europe and Latin America. Key traffic segments will include:
- Fresh-cut flowers imported from South America
- European clothing and apparel exports bound for Latin American markets
This route underscores MST’s strategic position in handling perishables and high-value goods.
