Lufthansa Cargo Enhances Digital Booking with Add-on Services

Lufthansa Cargo has expanded its digital booking platform by further integrating its portfolio of Add-on Services, enabling customers to customise airfreight shipments with greater flexibility and transparency.

The move builds on the airline’s modular product structure, where customers first select a product and service speed before adding tailored services to meet specific shipment requirements.

More Transparent and Flexible Booking Experience

As part of the update, all available Add-on Services for a selected route, product and speed are now displayed at the end of the booking process, including transparent pricing. Customers can add services with just a few clicks, simplifying the booking journey.

The integration of additional services such as toDoor and Insurance into the digital workflow is currently in progress.

Five Key Add-on Services Available

Lufthansa Cargo currently offers five Add-on Services designed to address key customer needs across the transport chain:

  • Sustainable Choice: Enables customers to support the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and contribute to certified climate protection projects aligned with shipment emissions.

  • Personal Supervision: Allows art logistics specialists or curators to personally accompany valuable artworks during ground handling. Currently available in Frankfurt and Munich.

  • smartULD: Provides real-time monitoring of temperature-sensitive shipments, including continuous data transmission. Available with the Active Temp Control product.

  • toDoor: Offers direct delivery to the consignee’s bonded warehouse via Lufthansa Cargo’s Road Feeder Service. (Integration into digital booking ongoing)

  • Insurance: A door-to-door insurance solution, offered in cooperation with Delvag, covering shipments beyond standard liability limits. (Integration ongoing)

Supporting Tailored Logistics Solutions

The expanded Add-on Services portfolio allows customers to design more customised logistics solutions, addressing requirements such as sustainability, security, monitoring and last-mile delivery.

By embedding these services into its digital booking platform, Lufthansa Cargo continues to advance its digital customer journey, making it easier for freight forwarders and shippers to manage complex transport needs.

Continued Focus on Digital Innovation

The integration of Add-on Services marks another step in Lufthansa Cargo’s broader digital strategy, aimed at improving usability, transparency and operational efficiency.

The airline confirmed that additional services are already in development, as it continues to evolve its offering in response to changing customer demands and market conditions.
