IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG), in collaboration with Iberia, has successfully transported a collection of priceless artefacts from Mexico City to Madrid for the exhibition “Half the World: Women in Indigenous Mexico”.
This significant cultural initiative underscores the enduring artistic and historical ties between Mexico and Spain, celebrating the role of Indigenous women in Mexican heritage.
Each artefact, symbolising the richness and diversity of Mexico’s ancient cultures, was transported in partnership with Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH), following an agreement between the Embassy of Mexico in Spain and the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
The pieces were flown aboard four Iberia Airbus A350 aircraft, using IAG Cargo’s Secure product — a high-security air freight solution designed for valuable and vulnerable cargo. The service ensures specialist handling, constant surveillance, and secure storage in dedicated facilities, guaranteeing the highest standards of protection from origin to destination.
The collection will be showcased across three of Madrid’s most prestigious cultural institutions:
Museo Arqueológico Nacional – Spain’s foremost archaeological museum;
Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza – world-renowned for its extensive art collection; and
Instituto Cervantes – dedicated to promoting Spanish language and culture globally.
The exhibition officially opened on 31 October 2025 and will run through the first quarter of 2026.
Camilo Garcia, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at IAG Cargo, said:
“At IAG Cargo, we take great pride in connecting cultures and communities through the movement of precious and meaningful cargo.
Whether it’s fine art, historical artefacts, or cultural treasures, our priority is always the same – ensuring every item reaches its destination safely, securely, and on time.
Collaborations such as this one with INAH reflect our wider commitment to using our global reach to connect people, preserve culture, and make a positive impact far beyond logistics.”
Sonia Sánchez, Director of Communication, Institutional Relations and Social Impact at Iberia, added:
“Iberia works every day to make our commitment to generating prosperity a reality, connecting people and cultures from all over the world.
We are proud to have been responsible for transporting this exhibition from Mexico City, one of our most emblematic destinations in Latin America.
With this project, we actively contribute to strengthening the cultural and friendship ties between Spain and Mexico, reaffirming our role as a bridge between Europe and Latin America.”
Through this project, IAG Cargo and Iberia continue to demonstrate their expertise in art logistics and cultural transport, leveraging their global network to safeguard heritage and promote international collaboration.
