GEODIS has significantly strengthened its transport capabilities in Spain with the addition of twelve new high-capacity, environmentally efficient duotrailers, bringing its national fleet to a total of eighteen. This strategic investment follows the recent resolution issued on 21 October by Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT), which now permits Euro-modular duotrailers to operate on designated routes without the need for prior authorisation.
Each duotrailer is capable of hauling up to 72 tonnes and delivers more than a 30% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional transport units. Powered by new 640HP tractor units, the vehicles are engineered to haul two semi-trailers across a total length of 32 metres, enabling substantial gains in both environmental performance and transport efficiency.
The newly expanded fleet will serve customers in the paper, steel and automotive industries—sectors where demand for high-capacity transport continues to grow. GEODIS underscores that this deployment not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports its long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability in the Spanish market.
Marc Vollet, EVP European Road Network activity at GEODIS, highlighted the dual benefits of the investment:
“In addition to the welcome beneficial impact to the environment of their use, with significant CO₂ emission reductions, the duotrailer allows increased productivity, with one tractor and one driver hauling two semi-trailers,” he said.
Vollet added: “The cost optimisation and improved operational efficiency achieved will bring great benefits to our Spanish customers.”
The duotrailers fully comply with the DGT’s technical requirements and will operate within the authorised national road network. GEODIS has also equipped each unit with advanced safety features, including pneumatic suspension, blind-spot detection, lane-keeping systems, emergency braking and electronic stability control.
This latest investment reinforces GEODIS’s ongoing commitment to implementing sustainable, high-performance transport solutions across its European Road Network operations and further strengthens its position as a leader in responsible logistics in Spain.
