FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has opened a new logistics facility at Bilbao Airport (BIO), significantly expanding its handling capacity and strengthening its presence in northern Spain.
The new complex provides 2,700 square meters of warehouse space—nearly 2,000 square meters larger than the previous location—alongside 400 square meters of modern office space spread across two floors.
This investment has doubled the station’s sorting capacity, enabling FedEx to process up to 1,500 packages per hour. The upgraded facility also features 27 loading docks, up from seven at the former site, enhancing efficiency and supporting the management of increased cargo volumes.
Ian Silverton, Managing Director of Ground Operations for FedEx Spain and Portugal, said:
“This new complex represents a significant investment in our operational capabilities and allows us to enhance our service offerings for customers, supporting their international aspirations and operational needs.”
The Bilbao station forms part of a wider FedEx network across northern Spain, complementing the company’s existing facilities in Vitoria and San Sebastian, as well as its air gateway in Vitoria, which provides next-day connections to major destinations across Europe and North America.
Together, these three facilities can now handle up to 6,000 packages per hour, reinforcing FedEx’s ability to meet growing demand from regional exporters and importers.
Across Spain, FedEx operates a robust logistics footprint, including:
- Air gateways in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, and Vitoria
- Two major road hubs in Madrid and Barcelona
- 26 operational stations nationwide
This expansion reflects FedEx’s ongoing investment in Spain’s logistics infrastructure, ensuring faster transit times, improved reliability, and greater capacity to serve businesses of all sizes.
