DHL has officially inaugurated a new warehouse facility, “Florstadt 4,” transforming its Life Sciences & Healthcare (LSH) campus near Frankfurt am Main into a key European pharmaceutical logistics hub.

The expansion is part of DHL’s multibillion-euro investment strategy into its global health logistics network.

Key features of the new facility:

  • 30,000 sqm of new space:
The new climate-neutral warehouse increases the campus’s total footprint to over 100,000 square metres, offering capacity for more than 140,000 pallets.

  • GMP-compliant infrastructure:
The facility includes a certified clean room that enables the processing of sensitive pharmaceutical goods, including active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and samples, in line with EU and international standards.

  • Multi-temperature storage zones:
Temperature zones include critical ranges of 2-8°C, -20°C, and as low as -70°C, enabling storage of high-value, temperature-sensitive therapies.

  • Sustainability and energy efficiency:
The site is operated climate-neutrally, featuring energy-saving systems such as photovoltaic panels, air-source heat pumps, solar thermal collectors, and LED lighting. It has received DGNB Gold certification for its sustainability.

  • Strategic location:
Located in Florstadt near Frankfurt, the facility benefits from proximity to key transportation links including Frankfurt Airport, ensuring rapid European distribution.

Thomas Ellmann, Vice President, DHL Life Sciences & Healthcare, said:
“This expansion represents a milestone for our European health logistics strategy and strengthens our capabilities to serve the complex requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. With this transformation, Florstadt becomes a cornerstone in our global logistics network for life-saving medicines and therapies.”

The Florstadt campus serves international biopharmaceutical, medical technology, and clinical research organisations, providing end-to-end compliant supply chain solutions. DHL plans further investments across its global health logistics footprint to support the evolving needs of the healthcare sector.
