DHL Resumes Parcel Shipping from Germany to US with New Customs-Compliant Service

DHL Post & Parcel Germany has resumed shipping services from Germany to the United States and Puerto Rico for business customers, following a four-week suspension caused by changes in US customs regulations.

The suspension came after the end of the de minimis exemption on 29 August, when more than 30 international postal agencies paused or limited shipments to the US while awaiting regulatory guidance and preparing new compliance processes.

New Shipping Option: DHL Parcel International with PDDP

From 25 September, companies can once again ship to the US via DHL Parcel International, in addition to the existing DHL Express service.

All shipments valued up to $800 must now be booked under the Postal Delivered Duty Paid (PDDP) service, which requires senders to:

  • Cover all import duties in advance,
  • Provide complete and accurate customs data, and
  • Ensure compliance with new US customs rules.

Previously offered only for shipments to Norway, the UK, and Switzerland, PDDP has now been extended to the United States.

Overhauled Customs Process

DHL confirmed it has revamped its data collection, customs reporting, and duty payment processes to align with new US import requirements.

While additional clearance costs and duties will now apply to most shipments (except private gifts under $100), DHL emphasized that base prices for business customer packages from Germany to the US remain unchanged.

“The introduction of PDDP ensures that businesses can continue to ship reliably and transparently to the US, despite new customs complexities,” DHL stated.
