Chapman Freeborn Completes ATR 72-600MPA Delivery to Philippine Air Force
Chapman Freeborn has successfully delivered an ATR 72-600MPA maritime patrol aircraft to the Philippine Air Force, completing a complex international ferry operation involving multiple stopovers and detailed logistical planning.
The aircraft, manufactured by Leonardo S.p.A. in Turin, Italy, is the second of its type acquired by the Philippine Air Force as part of its ongoing fleet modernisation programme.
Complex Multi-Stop Ferry Operation
The delivery required meticulous coordination and execution, with the aircraft routed through several international stopovers, including:
- Egypt
- Oman
- Sri Lanka
- Thailand
Chapman Freeborn deployed specialised equipment and onboard operational support throughout the journey to ensure a smooth and secure transfer to the Philippines.
The company also managed the delivery of the first ATR 72-600MPA aircraft to the Philippine Air Force in May of the previous year.
Managing Operational Challenges
The mission involved navigating a range of operational challenges, including weather-related disruptions and complex international permit requirements.
Chapman Freeborn said the successful execution highlights its ability to manage time-sensitive and technically demanding aviation logistics projects across multiple jurisdictions.
David Selby said the operation demonstrates the company’s operational agility, logistics expertise and close collaboration with Leonardo.
Supporting Advanced Military Capabilities
The ATR 72-600MPA is configured for maritime patrol missions and equipped with advanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems, requiring specialised handling during transport.
Vivienne Sinclair, who provided onboard support during the ferry operation, emphasised the importance of experience in coordinating complex aircraft transfers across global networks.
She said operations of this scale require deep understanding of international aviation logistics and represent a significant achievement for the team.
Strengthening Expertise in Complex Aircraft Movements
The successful delivery reinforces Chapman Freeborn’s capabilities in managing specialised aircraft movements, particularly for government and defence customers requiring precise coordination and technical expertise.
The project also highlights the growing demand for advanced logistics solutions to support fleet modernisation programmes worldwide.
