Air Atlanta, Fly Meta and Hungary Airlines partner on new Boeing 777 freighter operations

Air Atlanta, Fly Meta and Hungary Airlines have announced a new partnership to operate two Boeing 777-300ERSF freighters, strengthening air cargo links between Europe and Asia.

Under the agreement, the aircraft — leased by Hong Kong-based Fly Meta — will be operated by Iceland’s Air Atlanta and wet-leased to the recently established Hungary Airlines.

Based in Budapest, the two freighters will serve dedicated routes to mainland China and Hong Kong, creating what the partners described as a “fast, stable, and cost-efficient cargo bridge between Asia and Europe”.

The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in November, with the second to follow in the first half of 2026.

Air Atlanta and Fly Meta already cooperate on two Boeing 747-400 freighters flying regular China–Europe services, and the latest deal extends that partnership to the next-generation 777-300ERSF — also known as “The Big Twin”.

Fly Meta is leasing four of the converted widebody aircraft from AerCap, which jointly developed the freighter with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The model, offering a payload capacity of 100 tonnes, received certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration in August.

Hungary Airlines, which secured its air operator certificate in late 2024, is the national flag carrier and says it is the only widebody freighter operator in Central and Eastern Europe.

Air Atlanta chief executive Baldvin Hermannsson said: “Air Atlanta is proud to extend its partnership with Fly Meta and welcome Hungary Airlines into this collaboration.

“With our experience managing widebody freighters in the world’s fast-paced cargo market, we will ensure the highest operational standards and efficiency while supporting the growth of this new Central and Eastern European hub.”
