Indian air cargo carrier Afcom has strengthened its fleet with the addition of a third Boeing 737-800 passenger-to-freighter aircraft, marking another step in the airline’s ongoing expansion.
The aircraft arrived at Chennai International Airport on 30 December. Chennai serves as Afcom’s main base, and the carrier said the additional freighter will boost operational capacity while supporting growth across its domestic and regional network.
Deepak Parasuraman, Chairman and Managing Director of Afcom Holdings, said the fleet expansion reflects the airline’s disciplined growth strategy.
“The induction of our third aircraft strengthens our operating platform and enhances our ability to serve customers across expanding trade lanes,” he said.
“We remain focused on building a reliable and scalable cargo network.”
According to aircraft data provider Planespotters, Afcom took delivery of its first Boeing 737-800 freighter in May 2024, followed by a second aircraft in August 2024.
The growing fleet is expected to help the carrier meet increasing demand for air cargo services, particularly for time-sensitive and specialised shipments.
Afcom currently operates domestic cargo flights connecting Chennai with Mumbai and Delhi.
International services link Chennai with Colombo, Malé and Bangkok. The airline also launched scheduled cargo flights from Bengaluru to Malé last year and is planning to add a new route from Chennai to Singapore.
