AAT Secures IATA IEnvA Environmental Certification
Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT), a subsidiary of SATS Ltd, has achieved IATA ISP Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) certification, underlining the strength of its sustainability management framework and its alignment with internationally recognised environmental standards.
Developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the IEnvA programme is a globally recognised environmental certification that independently assesses how sustainability is embedded across governance, operational control and management processes, with a focus on systematic oversight and continuous improvement.
Certification Validates Environmental Management Framework
Mike Chew, Chief Executive Officer of AAT, said the certification reflects the maturity of the company’s environmental management structure and the progress it has made across decarbonisation, infrastructure and governance.
He said that given the scale and 24/7 nature of AAT’s operations, the business has the ability to drive meaningful change by integrating sustainability into daily activities at every level while maintaining operational performance.
Multi-Tiered Governance Supports Sustainability Goals
AAT said its sustainability strategy is governed through a multi-layered structure spanning the Board, senior management, a cross-functional Sustainability Committee and company-wide execution teams.
This framework is designed to provide oversight of environmental compliance, performance targets and risk management, while ensuring accountability throughout the organisation.
Focus on Decarbonisation and Resource Efficiency
The terminal’s sustainability strategy is centred on operational decarbonisation and resource efficiency, supported by a series of terminal-wide initiatives.
These include:
- Energy-efficient infrastructure upgrades
- Fleet electrification
- Deployment of Autonomous Electric Tractors
- Adoption of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO)
According to AAT, these measures have collectively delivered a 33% reduction in emissions compared with a 2018 baseline, supporting the company’s pathway towards net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Industry Recognition for Practical Sustainability Progress
Marie Owens Thomsen, Senior Vice President Sustainability and Chief Economist at IATA, congratulated AAT on achieving the certification, saying the company had demonstrated how sustainability can be advanced in a practical and measurable way while supporting resilient and efficient air cargo operations.
The certification further strengthens AAT’s position as an air cargo handler focused on embedding environmental responsibility into both strategy and day-to-day operations.
