Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has appointed Roland Weil as Vice President Business Development EFFH Germany, as the global air cargo handling group accelerates its expansion at Frankfurt Airport, Europe’s largest air freight hub.
Mr Weil joins WFS with immediate effect and will support the company’s plans to grow its freight forwarding and e-commerce operations in Frankfurt. As part of this expansion, WFS is moving into a large logistics facility in Cargo City South, previously operated by DHL.
WFS said the move underlines its commitment to strengthening its presence at Frankfurt, which plays a central role in European and global supply chains.
Mr Weil brings more than 40 years of aviation experience to the role. Most recently, he served as Vice President Sales Cargo at Frankfurt Airport, where he was instrumental in developing the airport’s air freight business. He was also a founding member and the first managing director of the Air Cargo Community Frankfurt association.
Claus Wagner, Managing Director of FCS, the Frankfurt-based subsidiary of WFS, says: “We are pleased to welcome Roland Weil to the WFS family. In his new role, he will support the development of new products and the expansion of our air freight handling activities.
“We look forward to working with him as we continue to develop our operations in Frankfurt”,.
His career began in Frankfurt with Air Canada, before spending many years at Delta Air Lines, where he held several senior sales roles, including Regional Director Sales for Southern Europe and Southeast Asia.
He joined airport operator Fraport in 2005 as Vice President Sales, working closely with airline route and network planners to support the growth of passenger and cargo connectivity at Frankfurt.
In 2013, he took on the newly created role of Vice President Sales Cargo, leading efforts to expand Frankfurt’s cargo volumes and international market position.
