Lufthansa Cargo has become one of the first airlines to implement the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) new ONE Record data standard in a live production environment, working alongside WiseTech Global and IBS Software to modernise the way air cargo shipment information is shared.
The collaboration represents one of the first large-scale, multi-stakeholder deployments of the ONE Record standard, which IATA introduced in January 2026 to create a more connected and transparent digital ecosystem for the global air cargo industry.
Building on several years of collaboration, Lufthansa Cargo, WiseTech Global and IBS Software have successfully enabled the seamless exchange of shipment records between freight forwarders and the airline using the new standard.
Improving digital data sharing across the supply chain
The implementation allows shipment information to be exchanged and processed more efficiently between airlines, freight forwarders and logistics partners.
WiseTech Global’s CargoWise platform, widely used by freight forwarders, was integrated with Lufthansa Cargo’s systems through the IBS Software ONE Record server. The first live use cases involved processing Master Air Waybill data, enabling shipment records to be transmitted electronically and handled within each organisation’s own systems before cargo is transported.
According to the companies, the new approach supports the exchange of significantly more shipment data and file formats than previous standards, providing greater visibility across the transport chain and enabling more proactive management of individual consignments.
The move is expected to improve transparency, increase operational efficiency and strengthen resilience throughout the global air cargo supply chain.
Foundation for future AI-powered services
Dr Jasmin Kaiser, Head of Information Management and Chief Data Officer at Lufthansa Cargo, said the airline had been working for several years to support the adoption of ONE Record as part of the industry’s wider digital transformation.
She said the successful deployment followed a series of pilot projects and would allow Lufthansa Cargo to connect with customers and partners more quickly and efficiently on a larger scale.
Kaiser added that seamless data exchange would also provide the foundation for future digital capabilities, including artificial intelligence-powered services.
Industry collaboration drives adoption
WiseTech Global said the implementation demonstrated the benefits of industry-wide collaboration in accelerating digital transformation.
Elias Hatzigeorgiou, Senior Product Manager at WiseTech Global, said the project showed how organisations could work together to establish a single, standardised source of shipment information.
He said replacing fragmented communications with a common data standard would improve transparency, operational efficiency and collaboration while enabling stakeholders to exchange shipment information securely and in real time.
IBS Software described the project as an important milestone in advancing digital innovation across the air cargo sector.
Radhesh Menon, Head of Cargo and Logistics Solutions at IBS Software, said technology and digitalisation continued to be key drivers of growth for the industry and that the company would continue developing solutions supporting wider adoption of the ONE Record standard.
What is ONE Record?
ONE Record is IATA’s next-generation standard for end-to-end digital data exchange across the air cargo supply chain.
It establishes a common data model that enables cargo information to be shared securely through standardised application programming interfaces (APIs), replacing fragmented messaging systems with a single digital record of each shipment.
Developed as an open-source standard under IATA’s coordination, ONE Record is designed to improve interoperability between airlines, freight forwarders, ground handlers and other logistics partners while helping the industry meet increasingly complex regulatory and compliance requirements in the years ahead.
