Ramps Logistics mobilises Antonov to deliver critical equipment over Christmas

A rare Antonov AN-124 freighter was deployed to Trinidad and Tobago over Christmas to deliver urgently needed equipment for an industrial facility, completing the operation in less than 48 hours.

Ramps Logistics said the delivery took place during one of the most challenging periods of the year for global supply chains, with limited aircraft availability and reduced operating hours over the Christmas holiday.

The urgent shipment was required to support the rapid restoration of full production at a local industrial plant that operates around the clock.

With cargo located across multiple sites and traditional freight options unavailable, the company opted to mobilise the Antonov AN-124, one of the world’s largest cargo aircraft.

The aircraft is a rare visitor to Trinidad and Tobago. Ramps Logistics coordinated the consolidation, customs clearance, security screening and loading of the equipment within a tight timeframe.

The Antonov entered the country’s airspace shortly after 9pm on Christmas Eve. Before the start of Christmas Day, the cargo had been unloaded and transported to the site, allowing engineers to begin restarting the facility.

Ramps Logistics said the operation required close coordination between multiple stakeholders and strict adherence to safety and compliance standards, despite the intense time pressure.

The company added that the delivery highlighted the importance of preparedness during peak holiday periods, when delays can have serious consequences for industries operating on critical timelines.

Air cargo specialists say demand for large freighter aircraft such as the AN-124 remains strong for urgent and outsized shipments, particularly when production downtime carries significant financial risk.
