Air Transport Services Group, Inc. (ATSG) has announced the appointment of Greg Mays as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026.
Mays succeeds Mike Berger, who will retire from his executive role after leading the company through a period of strategic development and growth. Berger will remain with ATSG in an advisory capacity for part of 2026 to support a smooth leadership transition.
Mays, who joined ATSG as President in September 2025, brings decades of senior aviation leadership experience spanning airline operations, maintenance, cargo, and ground handling. Prior to joining ATSG, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Sun Country Airlines, where he led the carrier through phases of rapid operational change and performance improvement.
Earlier in his career, Mays held key leadership roles at Alaska Airlines, contributing to major initiatives in maintenance, engineering, and labour relations during a transformational period for the airline. He also spent more than ten years at Delta Air Lines, where he managed complex global operations across maintenance, ground handling, and cargo.
Commenting on his appointment, Mays said: “I am honoured to have been named as the next leader of ATSG and look forward to building on the strong foundation that Mike established during his tenure. I am excited to continue working with our talented teams in my new role as we innovate and expand ATSG’s capabilities, with a continued focus on safety, operational and financial excellence, and best-in-class service.”
Outgoing CEO Mike Berger reflected on his time at the company, saying: “It has been an absolute privilege to lead ATSG and work with one of the best teams in the industry. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and am confident that ATSG has a bright future ahead under Greg’s leadership.”
Berger joined ATSG in 2018 and has held several senior roles, including Chief Commercial Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, and President of Airborne Global Solutions, before being appointed President in 2023 and Chief Executive Officer in 2024.
