Morrison Express names Asok Kumar new chief executive following takeover

Freight forwarder Morrison Express has appointed Asok Kumar as its new chief executive, marking a key leadership change following its recent acquisition by Japan’s SG Holdings.

Kumar, who spent two decades at Schenker, most recently served as head of global airfreight, a position he held for more than four years.

His earlier roles at the German logistics group included head of airfreight for the Americas and director of its Indonesian business.

He began his new role at Morrison Express earlier this month, shortly after leaving Schenker in the wake of its acquisition by Danish rival DSV earlier this year.

In 2024, Taiwan-based Morrison Express ranked as the world’s 17th largest airfreight forwarder, handling 314,776 tonnes of cargo and generating $937m in revenue.

The appointment comes as Morrison Express enters a new chapter under SG Holdings, which acquired the company in February.

The Japanese group, best known for its express delivery arm Sagawa Express, also owns EFL Global and several other logistics subsidiaries.

The acquisition is aimed at strengthening SG Holdings’ position in high-tech and semiconductor logistics, sectors in which Morrison Express has a strong presence.

Industry observers say Kumar’s extensive airfreight expertise could prove pivotal as the company seeks to expand its global footprint under its new parent.
