The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze S.A. – GTL S.A.) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland – has summarized cargo traffic for the first six months of 2025.

From January to the end of June 2025, the Katowice Airport cargo terminal handled a total of 21,954 tonnes of freight, 2,412 tonnes more (+12.3%) in comparison with the same time last year, when 19,542 tonnes were noted in Pyrzowice. The result for the first half of 2025 is the best in the airport’s history; the cargo terminal in Katowice Airport handled 2,292 tonnes of freight more (+11.6%) than in the first six months of 2022, when record-breaking 19,662 tonnes of cargo were noted.

Furthermore, June 2025 was the best single month in the history of Katowice Airport when it comes to cargo traffic; 4,398 tonnes were handled, i.e., 203 tonnes more (+4.8%) than in the previous record-breaking month: April 2025 (4,195 tonnes).

“We estimate that in 2025 Katowice Airport will handle, for the second time in its history, more than 40 thousand tonnes of freight. We see big potential in this segment of traffic, especially when it comes to transport for the e-commerce branch. Our long-term goal is to handle over 100 thousand tonnes of cargo yearly,” said Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group.

Air cargo is one of the most important areas of traffic at Katowice Airport. Among others, the following companies have established branches in Pyrzowice: DHL Express, UPS and FedEx. Since October 2024, all-cargo flights are realized to Katowice Airport from Ürümqi (China); in April 2025, Lufthansa Cargo commenced scheduled all-cargo flights on the Frankfurt – Katowice – Frankfurt route. Katowice Airport is the first airport in Poland from which the carrier handles regular cargo flights. Additionally, Lufthansa Cargo operates a road feeder service (RFS) freight consolidation facility in the airport’s cargo terminal; it is based on transport of goods between airports via trucks. Each RFS operation is treated like a flight; every truck is assigned a flight number.
