Ontario International Airport sees 5% rise in air cargo volume amid mail surge

Share

Air cargo traffic at Ontario International Airport (ONT) rose by over 5% in May, reaffirming the airport’s status as one of the top 10 cargo hubs in the United States.

According to airport officials, overall air cargo volumes increased by 5.1% year-on-year in May.

While freight shipments dipped by 8.6%, mail volumes surged dramatically, rising by 324.3%.

From January through May 2025, ONT recorded a 9.2% increase in total air cargo tonnage compared with the same period last year.

This growth was driven by a sustained boom in mail traffic, which soared by 333.1%, helping offset a 5.3% decline in freight volumes.

Ontario International continues to play a critical role in the region’s logistics network, particularly as demand for e-commerce and parcel delivery services remains robust.
