TAAG Angola Airlines’ cargo division has launched a new dedicated freight service to Lusaka, Zambia, marking a further step in the airline’s strategy to expand its African cargo network and strengthen intra-continental trade links.
The inaugural flight to the Zambian capital was operated on 24 July 2026 using a Boeing 737-800 Freighter under flight number DT7587.
The first service carried 12.8 tonnes of cargo from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, including machinery parts, IT equipment, personal goods and other high-value shipments. TAAG reported strong initial demand, with subsequent flights expected to transport 14 tonnes and 16 tonnes respectively.
The Lusaka route will initially operate on a weekly basis, providing additional cargo capacity between Angola, Zambia and key international markets.
Strategic partnership in Zambia
To support operations in Lusaka, TAAG has partnered with NAC2000, which has been appointed as both the airline’s ramp and cargo handling provider, as well as its General Sales and Service Agent (GSSA) in Zambia.
The addition of Lusaka further strengthens TAAG Cargo’s dedicated African network, which already includes Lagos, Brazzaville, Abidjan, Accra, Kinshasa, Nairobi and Johannesburg.
The airline said the expansion enhances connectivity between major African markets while reinforcing Angola’s position as a growing regional cargo hub.
Boosting trade flows across continents
The new service forms part of TAAG’s broader North-South logistics corridor, creating a key gateway for goods arriving from Europe, China and Brazil for onward distribution across Africa.
TAAG noted that the Lusaka route will also support Zambia’s Airlift Zambia initiative by improving export opportunities for products such as beef, poultry, fresh vegetables and other agricultural goods.
The airline expects the service to strengthen access to Angola’s domestic market and TAAG’s wider international network, supporting increased trade flows and closer economic ties between Angola and Zambia.
Further expansion ahead
TAAG Cargo is continuing to develop its network, with plans to launch a new service to Libreville, Gabon, in the fourth quarter of 2026.
