dnata extends cargo systems partnership with Lödige Industries at Singapore Changi

dnata has expanded its long-running partnership with Lödige Industries with a new agreement covering the maintenance and upgrade of cargo handling systems at Singapore Changi Airport.

The agreement includes maintenance support for several cargo handling systems used by dnata in Singapore, including the first material handling system installed by Lödige Industries in Asia in 1979.

The companies said the system has operated reliably for decades and will now undergo upgrades aimed at extending its operational life and improving efficiency.

The maintenance programme also covers the Automatic Cargo Handling System (ACHS), Pallet Cargo Handling System (PCHS), and mechanical systems supporting dnata’s cool chain and perishables facilities.

Lödige Industries is also developing additional solutions designed to improve cargo handling capacity and operational performance at the airport.

Sam Gould, head of cargo at dnata Singapore, said the partnership would help support rising cargo volumes while maintaining service standards.

“Our partnership with Lödige Industries is the best we could have chosen, not only because they have extensive experience and knowledge in this field, but also because they understand our needs and have consistently proven themselves to have a high level of reliability,” he said.

“With this critical service, we will ensure that our cargo handling systems are ready for long-term operation, enabling us to handle growing cargo volumes and maintain the high quality standards required by our customers.”

Mr Gould added that upgrading existing material handling systems was essential to ensure uninterrupted operations while reducing long-term maintenance costs.

Ranga Jayaweera, general manager for Singapore at Lödige Industries, said maintaining and modernising existing infrastructure could often provide the most effective operational solution.

“Maintaining a fundamentally functioning system of good quality and adapting it to new challenges through upgrades can be the most effective solution in this case,” he said.

“We are very pleased to support dnata once again.”

Lödige Industries has previously delivered several projects for dnata in Singapore, including work at its perishables centre, installation of an elevating transfer vehicle system, and engineering upgrades to cargo handling equipment.

The partnership between the two companies also extends to international cargo facilities at airports including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, London Heathrow and Amsterdam Schiphol.

Recent projects include the second phase of dnata City East at Heathrow Airport, upgrades to dnata’s Terminal One cargo handling system at Sydney Airport in 2024, and equipment supply for dnata’s new cargo terminal at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Mr Gould described the decades-long relationship between the companies as “exceptional” and said dnata remained committed to continuing the partnership through future projects.
