The International Air Cargo Association (Tiaca) saw an increase in both membership and revenue in 2024, according to director general Glyn Hughes.
During a recent webinar, Hughes announced that Tiaca welcomed 33 new members last year, bringing its total membership to 480 companies and organizations. Of these, six joined as trustees, 16 as corporate members, six as small businesses, and five as startups.
New trustee members included Rainbow Aviation, King Salman International Airport, SmartKargo, Emirates SkyCargo, Delta Cargo, and Conveyor Logistics.
Financially, Tiaca’s total revenue grew by 19% year on year, driven in part by its biennial Air Cargo Forum in November. The association has since confirmed that from 2025, this event will be held annually. However, membership revenue declined compared to 2023 due to fewer new trustee members, who pay a higher initial joining fee followed by a lower annual renewal.
In 2024, membership revenue accounted for 58% of Tiaca’s total income, with events contributing 37% and programs 5%.
Tiaca undertook a strategic review last year to align with industry needs. This included evaluating governance, membership structure, event offerings, and service delivery. The review also assessed board representation on a global level and led to resource expansions to enhance member benefits.
Key actions from the review include targeting underrepresented member categories, such as freight forwarders, and launching a ‘Young Person Task Force’ to advise the board.
Tiaca will soon release its latest sustainability survey results, which indicate that industry pressure to adopt sustainable practices has eased over the past year. However, sustainability remains a priority for both employees and customers.
The association has also launched a new partnership with Pharma.Aero, the Cool Chain Association, and the Humanitarian Logistics Association to examine air cargo’s role in pharmaceutical and perishables transport. This project will produce data-driven insights and training programs to support industry best practices.
Additionally, Tiaca is working with the Global Aviation & Aerospace Skills Taskforce on talent recruitment and is participating in Logistics UK’s Generation Logistics campaign to attract new talent to the sector.
To address the evolving e-commerce landscape, Tiaca has established a dedicated task force to analyze industry trends, challenges, and opportunities. This group will develop guidelines and recommendations for industry standards bodies.
Meanwhile, Tiaca has opened nominations for its annual Hall of Fame award, with submissions accepted until March 31.
