Ontario International Airport (ONT) in California recorded a 16.6% increase in total air cargo volume in April 2025, continuing its strong performance as a key logistics hub in the western United States.
The growth was driven largely by a surge in mail shipments, which soared by 437% year-on-year, offsetting a slight 0.8% dip in freight volume, according to airport officials.
For the year to date, ONT handled 10% more air cargo tonnage compared to the same four-month period in 2024.
While freight volume was down by 4.3%, mail tonnage spiked by 335%, highlighting shifting dynamics in the cargo sector as e-commerce and postal services drive renewed growth.
Ontario International has increasingly positioned itself as a strategic alternative to Southern California’s busier airports, offering faster turnaround times and less congestion for both freight carriers and integrators.
