MSC Air Cargo has taken delivery of its seventh Boeing 777-200 Freighter, strengthening the airline’s long-haul cargo network as global demand for air freight remains strong.

The aircraft was handed over at Boeing’s Everett Delivery Centre in Seattle and is the third freighter registered in Italy under the carrier’s European Air Operator’s Certificate.

The latest addition expands the airline’s dedicated cargo capacity and supports its growing network across Europe–Asia trade routes, a key corridor for global freight.

Expanding cargo capacity

With seven Boeing 777 freighters now in service, MSC Air Cargo said the enlarged fleet will help deliver more reliable scheduled services between Europe and Asia.

The aircraft are used to transport a wide range of high-value and time-sensitive shipments, including pharmaceuticals, perishable goods, technology components and automotive and aerospace parts.

The expansion is also expected to strengthen the airline’s Italian operations.

MSC Air Cargo said the new aircraft will allow it to expand operations beyond its existing hub at Milan Malpensa Airport by introducing services from Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport.

Both airports will connect directly to major cargo hubs in Asia, including Hong Kong International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Ezhou Huahu Airport.

MSC Air Cargo chief executive Jannie Davel said the fleet expansion reflected the company’s long-term strategy to build a reliable global air freight network.

“Each addition to our fleet is a commitment to our customers and the trade lanes we serve,” he said.

“We are strengthening our ability to deliver cargo services where and when they are needed most.”

Boeing also highlighted the performance advantages of the aircraft. Ricardo Cavero, Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Europe and Israel, said the 777 freighter’s fuel efficiency, payload capacity and range would help MSC Air Cargo expand its operations while meeting rising cargo demand.

The aircraft type is widely used by international freight operators due to its long range and large cargo capacity, making it a key platform for intercontinental logistics routes.
