Etihad Cargo Transports 500+ Tonnes of Flowers for Global Celebrations

Share

Etihad Cargo, the logistics arm of Etihad Airways, has reinforced its support for global trade by transporting over 500 tonnes of fresh flowers from Nairobi, Kenya, to key European markets for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

Utilizing its IATA CEIV-certified FreshForward product, Etihad Cargo ensures optimal conditions for transporting premium flowers, including big-head roses such as High and Peace, Cappuccino, Cabaret, Topaz, and Roseberry. Flowers are maintained at 2–8°C during transit, with specialised thermal covers and IoT sensors preserving their freshness.

Ahead of Valentine’s Day, the carrier operated four dedicated flower charters, moving 510 tonnes of blooms to the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Additionally, Etihad Cargo’s four weekly flights from Nairobi – including three passenger flights with bellyhold capacity and one dedicated freighter – enable the export of approximately 95 tonnes of flowers weekly.

Beyond floriculture, Etihad Cargo supports Africa’s perishable exports, transporting fruits, vegetables, and meat. The airline moves 72 tonnes of fresh produce monthly from South Africa to the UAE and beyond, leveraging its advanced cool chain solutions.

Stanislas Brun, Vice President Cargo, Etihad Cargo, stated:

“Etihad Cargo is proud to support the floriculture industry, connecting African producers with consumers worldwide. Our FreshForward product ensures flowers arrive fresh and vibrant, helping meet peak demand during key celebrations.”

With its extensive network, advanced facilities, and logistics expertise, Etihad Cargo remains committed to enhancing global trade and supporting vital industries.
