CargoLand by LGG opens upgraded Vet Centre to strengthen live animal inspections

Share

CargoLand by LGG has officially opened its newly renovated Vet Centre at Liège Airport, enhancing sanitary inspection and quarantine procedures for live animal shipments.

The facility plays a central role in the airport’s live animal (AVI) logistics chain, acting as a key control point to ensure all animals entering or leaving Liège comply with strict animal health and biosecurity regulations.

Enhanced quarantine and inspection facilities

The upgraded Vet Centre includes fully equipped inspection areas and a dedicated isolation and quarantine zone. This allows veterinarians to monitor animals requiring observation or additional testing without disrupting other operations.

The design enables multiple consignments to be processed simultaneously, while maintaining high biosecurity standards and operational efficiency.

All live animals transiting through Liège are subject to mandatory veterinary checks. These inspections cover health status, documentation and transport conditions, helping to safeguard animal welfare and support international trade compliance.

Growing complexity in live animal logistics

The centre supports the work of Belgium’s Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA), which carries out detailed sanitary inspections on site.

In 2025, the facility processed 3,766 equids, alongside a range of other live shipments including ornamental fish, insects and small mammals. The figures highlight the increasing complexity and diversity of live animal cargo handled at the airport.

Part of a wider live animal ecosystem

The Vet Centre forms part of CargoLand by LGG’s broader live animal infrastructure, which also includes the Horse Inn facility. The Horse Inn can accommodate up to 12,000 horses per year in secure, climate-controlled conditions.
