Avianca Cargo Adds Ecuador to Amazon Air Cargo Network
Avianca Cargo has expanded its partnership with Amazon Air Cargo by adding Ecuador as a new origin point in its cargo service to Miami.
Effective March 2026, the move introduces five new weekly frequencies on the Quito–Miami (UIO–MIA) route, strengthening connectivity between Ecuador and the United States.
Boosting Perishable Exports to the U.S.
The new service is designed to support Ecuador’s key export sectors, particularly:
- Flowers
- Fresh fruits
- Other perishable goods
The expansion comes at a critical time, with demand peaking during seasonal events such as Mother’s Day, when flower exports to the U.S. surge significantly.
Strengthening a Strategic Partnership
The operation builds on the commercial relationship between Avianca Cargo and Amazon Air Cargo, which began in 2025 with routes such as Bogotá–Miami.
Ecuador becomes the second market where Avianca Cargo operates using Amazon-provided capacity, reinforcing a growing collaboration focused on:
- Capacity optimisation
- Reliable scheduling
- Long-term network development
Diogo Elías, CEO of Avianca Cargo, said:
“Ecuador’s addition to this service is a key milestone in our value proposition for exporters, particularly in the perishables segment.”
Expanded Network and Capacity
Avianca Cargo currently operates:
- More than 20 weekly departures
- Over 1,000 flights annually
- Nearly 500 flights completed under the partnership to date
The addition of Ecuador further enhances capacity across the South America–U.S. trade corridor, offering exporters more flexible and reliable logistics options.
Key Role of Quiport
The operation is supported by Quiport, operator of Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport, which provides:
- Modern cargo infrastructure
- Efficient handling of perishables
- Strong connectivity for export-driven industries
Ramón Miró, CEO of Quiport, said the new service highlights growing international confidence in Ecuador’s logistics capabilities and reinforces Quito’s position as a regional export hub.
Supporting a Critical Trade Corridor
Amazon Air Cargo provides the airlift capacity for the service, enabling Avianca Cargo to expand operations while maintaining efficiency and scalability.
Kes Nielsen, Director of Amazon Air Cargo, commented:
“Our role is focused on supporting international air cargo operations that connect Ecuador’s export economy with U.S. markets.”
Enhancing South America–U.S. Connectivity
With the addition of Ecuador, Avianca Cargo and Amazon Air Cargo are further strengthening a key logistics corridor linking:
- South America
- The United States
The expansion reflects rising demand for time-sensitive, temperature-controlled logistics, while reinforcing the importance of strategic partnerships in scaling air cargo operations.
