airBaltic has officially opened the Baltic Cargo Hub at RIX Riga Airport, a 6,895-square-meter facility designed to meet rising demand for efficient, modern cargo services in the region.
Strategically located adjacent to the cargo apron, the hub features advanced semi-automated material handling systems, temperature-controlled rooms for pharmaceuticals, and dedicated zones for dangerous goods, live animals, and high-value cargo. On-site food and veterinary services, along with a Customs checkpoint, aim to streamline cargo operations and enhance efficiency.
“This state-of-the-art facility will significantly increase cargo handling capacity at Riga Airport—up to 45,000 tonnes annually—and is open to all carriers looking to expand in the Baltics,” said Pauls Cālītis, Interim CEO and COO of airBaltic. “For airBaltic, it’s a major step forward in growing our cargo services and reinforcing our position in global logistics.”
Arvīds Mūrāns, Chairman of the Board of the Baltic Cargo Center, added, “The new hub is a smart investment in faster, more flexible cargo operations. With a dedicated mail sorting facility, it also strengthens Riga’s role in international postal logistics.”
