airBaltic has successfully completed the construction of the Baltic Cargo Hub, the largest dedicated air cargo handling facility in the Baltics.

The project was completed on schedule, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s efforts to enhance air cargo infrastructure in the region. With construction finalized, airBaltic is now preparing to commence full-scale operations, reinforcing RIX Riga Airport as a key logistics hub in Northern Europe and expanding its cargo capabilities.

The official opening is planned for later this spring, with further details to follow.

Developed in collaboration with industry experts, the project involved UPB Nams overseeing construction, Ozola un Bula architect office handling design, and BLV Advisory Group providing technical supervision.

Spanning 6,895 m², the Baltic Cargo Hub is strategically located at the cargo apron and features advanced semi-automatic material handling systems for efficient cargo processing. The facility includes temperature-controlled rooms for pharmaceuticals, designated areas for dangerous goods, live animals, and valuables, as well as integrated Food and Veterinary Service facilities and a Customs checkpoint to streamline operations.

With this development, airBaltic aims to meet the growing demand for modern cargo services and strengthen RIX Riga Airport’s position as a leading logistics hub in Northern Europe.
