Brussels Airport Reports 25% Surge in Cargo Volumes in October as Flown Freight Drives Growth

Share

Brussels Airport recorded a significant upswing in cargo throughput last month, with total volumes rising 25% year-on-year to 80,638 tonnes, fuelled by strong performance across all flown cargo segments.

Flown cargo increased 24% to 66,954 tonnes, supported by broad-based growth. Belly cargo saw the strongest jump, up 53%, reflecting the continued recovery of long-haul passenger services and increased capacity in global markets. Full-freighter volumes grew 7%, while integrator traffic rose 24% compared with October 2024.

In contrast, trucked cargo declined 28%, extending a downward trend observed throughout 2025 as more shipments shift from road feeder services back to air transport.

Asia remained the airport’s leading import and export market, while Africa and North America also contributed significantly to overall growth. On the export side, North America and Africa ranked as the second and third most important regions respectively.

Aircraft movements at Brussels Airport increased modestly, rising 3% year-on-year. Passenger flights were up 3.3%, while dedicated cargo flights saw a slight 1% decrease.

The strong cargo results underscore Brussels Airport’s growing role as a major European logistics hub, supported by recovering global trade flows and expanding long-haul connectivity.
