Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI), a global leader in passenger-to-freighter (P2F) aircraft conversions, has officially launched its new B737-900 Extended Range Special Freighter (B737-900ERSF) conversion program — the largest and most capable narrowbody freighter in AEI’s growing portfolio.
The program is being developed under AEI’s Boeing Licensing Agreement as a Boeing Licensed 3rd Party Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) Provider, ensuring full compliance with Boeing standards and specifications.
This strategic expansion underscores AEI’s ongoing commitment to innovation, operational efficiency, and flexibility for the global air cargo market.
Introducing the Industry’s Most Advanced B737 Freighter
Designed to meet rising global demand for higher-capacity, cost-efficient narrowbody freighters, the new B737-900ERSF will deliver unmatched performance and economics for express, e-commerce, and general cargo operators.
Key specifications include:
- Main Deck Payload: up to 57,700 lbs. (26,173 kg)
- Total Cargo Volume: 7,273 cu. ft. (207 m³)
- Main Deck Configuration: up to 12 pallet positions (88” x 125” ULDs)
- Advanced Features: ANCRA cargo loading system, 9G rigid barrier, smoke detection, and reinforced flooring
- Crew Accommodation: seating for 5 supernumerary passengers
- Extended Range Options: 180-minute ETOPS and Auxiliary Fuel Tank retained
These capabilities position the B737-900ERSF as an ideal solution for operators seeking greater payload flexibility and range efficiency, while leveraging the proven B737 Next Generation platform.
Certification and Market Entry Timeline
AEI expects to receive FAA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for the B737-900ERSF in 2029, followed by EASA and CAAC certifications.
Once certified, the aircraft will join AEI’s expanding range of P2F solutions, which includes the B737-400SF, B737-800SF, and CRJ200SF platforms — each serving a critical role in regional and short-haul cargo operations worldwide.
Meeting Growing Global Cargo Demand
Robert T. Convey, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at AEI, said:
“This is a strategic move to address the increasing demand for higher-capacity narrowbody freighters.
With global e-commerce and express markets continuing to expand, the B737-900ERSF provides operators with the ideal balance of payload, volume, and economics.
