Magma Aviation has unveiled plans to expand its fleet with medium-sized freighters later this year, targeting Q3 or Q4 2025.
Strategic Shift to Mid-Size Freighters
CEO Peter Kerins confirmed the move, citing challenging market conditions for widebody freighters in late 2024 and 2025, making long-term leasing deals less viable.
While the exact aircraft type remains undisclosed, parent company Chapman Freeborn had previously hinted at interest in Boeing 767 or Airbus A330 freighters.
Currently, Magma operates:
✅ Three Boeing 747 freighters
✅ An Airbus A321-200F
✅ A Boeing 737-800F
Global Growth Strategy
Magma expanded its presence in 2024, including:
🌍 A new Dubai office to tap into Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and China
🏢 A global HQ in Dublin to strengthen leasing relationships
📦 New cargo handling partnerships with WFS in Liège
Kerins emphasized:
“Dublin is a global aviation hub, with 50% of the world’s aircraft leased from Ireland. Strengthening our position here is essential for growth.”
Sales Expansion Plans
Magma is also enhancing its sales network by partnering with agents in new target markets to accelerate expansion.
“These partners will be key in introducing Magma to new regions, working closely with our commercial team,” Kerins said.
With this fleet expansion and global strategy, Magma Aviation is positioning itself for long-term growth in the cargo sector.
