Swissport has announced the opening of new air cargo centres in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, along with a new facility in Auckland, New Zealand. These expansions aim to enhance operational efficiency and provide tailored logistics solutions for airline customers and freight forwarders.
The new locations feature advanced temperature-controlled storage, direct airside access, and state-of-the-art handling equipment, strengthening Swissport’s role as a key logistics partner in the region.
“Swissport is ready to support the rapidly growing air cargo demand in Australia and New Zealand, enabling businesses to thrive,” said Joel Greig, Swissport’s General Manager of Cargo for Australia and New Zealand.
Strategic Expansion for Increased Capacity
Melbourne (Tullamarine Airport): The closest facility with direct airside access, offering 9,366 square metres of space, including 5,000 square metres of warehouse area with temperature-controlled storage for perishables and pharmaceuticals.
Sydney (Sydney Airport): A newly renovated facility with over 4,500 square metres of handling space, equipped to process perishables, pharmaceuticals, mail, express shipments, and general cargo. Express delivery trucks can transport cargo within 45 minutes of aircraft arrival.
Auckland (Auckland Airport): Opening in March 2025, this facility will house the airport’s largest and most advanced X-ray machine, ensuring top-tier security and screening.
Swissport currently provides ground services for 29 airline customers at 18 airports across Australia and New Zealand. In 2024, the company handled 10.2 million passengers and 226,358 flights, with a workforce of 3,600 aviation professionals supporting its operations.
