SmartKargo Partners with Sun Phu Quoc Airways to Drive Digital Cargo Transformation

Share

SmartKargo has signed a strategic agreement with Sun Phu Quoc Airways, Vietnam’s premium full-service carrier backed by Sun Group, to deliver a next-generation cargo management platform as the airline builds out its cargo operations.

Under the deal, Sun Phu Quoc Airways will implement SmartKargo’s cloud-native system as the backbone of its cargo business, enabling a fully digital, scalable, and modern approach to air freight. The platform will provide end-to-end cargo capabilities through a single integrated architecture, supporting the airline’s long-term commercial and operational growth.

The move signals the airline’s intention to position cargo as a core pillar of its business strategy, supported by technology designed for the evolving demands of global air freight. As Sun Phu Quoc Airways expands its international footprint and strengthens Phu Quoc’s position as an emerging aviation gateway, cargo is expected to play an increasingly important role in driving network efficiency and revenue performance.

The planned introduction of Airbus A330 widebody aircraft from September 2026 will significantly boost bellyhold capacity across international routes, making the deployment of a robust cargo management platform a critical step at this stage of development. The agreement also forms part of the airline’s wider digital transformation roadmap as it targets five-star carrier status.

Vietnam’s air cargo market continues to grow rapidly, fuelled by strong export activity, the rise of e-commerce, and the country’s growing importance as a manufacturing and logistics hub in Southeast Asia. By launching its cargo operations on a digital-first platform, Sun Phu Quoc Airways is aiming to capitalise on this momentum with enhanced agility, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.

Truong Ngo Quoc, Chief Information Officer at Sun Phu Quoc Airways, said the airline is building its cargo business with a clear focus on scalability, agility, and technology leadership, adding that SmartKargo was selected following a comprehensive evaluation process for its ability to support both current needs and future expansion.

Olivier Houri, Chief Revenue Officer at SmartKargo, highlighted Southeast Asia as a high-growth cargo market and said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to leveraging technology to deliver both commercial strength and operational excellence.
