Saudia Cargo is set to capitalize on the growing demand for e-commerce shipments between Asia and Europe with the introduction of new freighter services.
The airline will operate twice-weekly freighter flights between Liège Airport (LGG) in Belgium and Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO) in China. Additionally, a weekly freighter service will be launched from Liège to King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
Currently, Saudia Cargo operates a fleet of seven freighters, including Boeing 747s and Boeing 777s.
The airline said the new routes align with its strategy to expand its global network and support the booming e-commerce sector, as well as trade between Asia and Europe via Saudi Arabia. This initiative is also in line with the goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.
The new services to China are being offered in collaboration with e-commerce platforms, merchants, and logistics providers.
Marwan Niazi, Senior Vice President of Sales at Saudia Cargo, commented on the new routes:
“These strategic routes represent exciting opportunities for our customers, helping to shape a new era of global trade between Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The addition of the Liège and Zhengzhou services will revolutionize our operations, enhance our capacity to meet rising demand in the region, and further establish us as a leading player in the global air cargo market.”
He further highlighted that this expansion allows Saudia Cargo to offer advanced solutions that contribute to the sustainable growth of both customers and partners, reaffirming the airline’s dedication to achieving shared success.
Niazi also emphasized that these new services further bolster Saudi Arabia’s role as a global logistics hub.
The direct flight from Liège to Dammam launched on April 3, bringing the airline’s total number of weekly flights from Liège to 11. This increase reflects Saudia Cargo’s growing footprint in Europe and highlights its commitment to transporting time-sensitive shipments efficiently.
In a further expansion of its capabilities, Saudia Cargo also announced this week that it has earned IATA’s CEIV Fresh certification, which will enhance its growing perishables business. The certification validates the airline’s ability to handle temperature-sensitive goods to IATA’s internationally recognized standards.
