Riege Software has announced the appointment of Christian Riege as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a leadership transition within the second-generation family business. Christian, who previously served as Chief Technology Officer, succeeds his brother, Dr. Tobias Riege, who will now take on the role of Chief Data Officer.
Christian Riege has played a central role in shaping the company’s flagship product, Scope, since its initial launch in 2006. Under his technical leadership, Scope has evolved into a cloud-based transport management system supporting air freight, sea freight, and customs operations, now used by more than 900 companies across 60 countries.
As CEO, Christian Riege is set to drive the next phase of the company’s evolution by expanding Scope beyond a traditional software platform into a collaborative digital ecosystem. His strategy centres on growing the “Scope Community” – a network designed to connect freight forwarders and logistics partners directly through the platform. By enabling users to find and work with each other, Riege Software aims to transform Scope into a fully integrated network for logistics professionals.
The move builds on relationships that have historically developed through industry events, bringing them into a structured digital environment. Despite this shift, the company emphasises that its core philosophy remains unchanged, with strategic decisions continuing to be made collectively by the family leadership.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tobias Riege will focus on strengthening the company’s data strategy in his new role as Chief Data Officer. His priorities include enhancing data availability and unlocking greater value for customers and internal stakeholders.
“In logistics, many decisions are still made on experience and intuition,” said Tobias Riege. “While that has served the industry well, the growing complexity of global trade requires a more data-driven approach. We now have the opportunity to place these decisions on a much more solid foundation.”
Riege Software remains firmly family-owned, with five second-generation siblings jointly managing the business. Alongside Christian as CEO and Tobias as CDO, Benjamin Riege oversees marketing and sales, Anna Riege leads people and culture, and Johannes Riege Jr. is responsible for finance and controlling.
