Nippon Express (NX) has inaugurated a new airfreight service connecting Chubu Centrair International Airport in Japan with Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in Kentucky to better serve the growing demand in nearby Ohio.
Previously, cargo destined for Ohio was routed through Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. However, Nippon Express has introduced the “NX-FORWARDING – AIR – Ohio Midnight Express” service to reduce delivery times by utilizing CVG for faster transit.
This new service involves evening cargo deliveries to Chubu Airport, where Nippon Express maintains an international cargo handling facility. The shipments are then loaded onto a direct flight to Cincinnati late at night. Upon arrival in Cincinnati, Nippon Express USA’s Columbus branch in Ohio handles the distribution.
Nippon Express did not disclose if other supply chain partners are part of this service.
“Ohio is one of the most industrialized states in the US, with numerous companies in the automotive and other industries. The demand for urgent cargo transport to Ohio is rising, especially among customers in the Midwest, where automotive-related industries are thriving,” Nippon Express stated in a press release.
Same-day delivery within Ohio is facilitated by combining transport from the Columbus Branch to the final destination with Nippon Express’ optional urgent delivery service.
“Integrating both arrival and departure operations within the NX Group reduces lead time by approximately one day compared to the Group’s conventional service. Delivery can be arranged not only to Ohio but also to neighboring states such as West Virginia,” the logistics firm added.
Nippon Express expanded its global footprint last year by acquiring Austrian logistics provider cargo-partner, propelling the combined company into the top five airfreight forwarders worldwide, with volumes exceeding 1 million tonnes.
