Share

Maersk has officially inaugurated its first low greenhouse gas emission warehouse, located at Taulov Dry Port in Fredericia, Denmark. The facility, which began construction nearly two years ago, marks a significant milestone in Maersk’s journey towards achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2040.

Key Features and Highlights of the Facility:

  • Inauguration Event: On June 24, 2024, the new warehouse was officially launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by customers, local authorities, and partners.
  • Environmental Standards: The warehouse is built according to BREEAM Excellent standards, ensuring zero direct emissions from operations. This includes the electrification of all indoor and outdoor equipment, and the installation of solar panels on the entire roof. Excess renewable energy generated is fed back into the grid.
  • Transportation Integration: The facility is strategically located in the Danish Triangle Region, providing easy access to major infrastructure elements such as ports, rail, road, and Maersk’s air hub in Billund. This integrated logistics hub enhances the handling of cargo arriving by road, sea, and air, and supports Maersk’s strategy of offering comprehensive logistics solutions.

Statements from Key Figures:

  • Birna Ödefors, Managing Director Nordics at Maersk:
    • Highlighted the facility as a new logistics hub central to the Danish Triangle Region.
    • Emphasized its strategic importance due to easy access to main infrastructure and its role in meeting customer needs.
  • Rune D. Rasmussen, CEO of ADP A/S (operator of the Port of Fredericia and Taulov Dry Port):
    • Expressed honor in hosting the inauguration.
    • Noted the strategic value Maersk found in locating their facility at Denmark’s multimodal transportation hub.
    • Looked forward to continuing collaboration with Maersk.

Future Prospects:

  • Sustainable Operations: The warehouse will use battery-driven trucks for all shunting operations, and hydrogen stations are planned within 150 meters of the site to support further sustainable operations.
  • Customer Benefits: The facility directly addresses the needs of customers, many of whom have distribution centers and production facilities in the area. It aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of cargo handling in the Nordics.

This launch represents a significant step forward in sustainable logistics and sets a new international benchmark for low-emission warehouses and logistics facilities. Maersk’s commitment to sustainability and integrated logistics solutions is exemplified through this pioneering project in Taulov Dry Port.
