Lufthansa Cargo is expanding its weekly flight capacity to Argentina and Brazil in response to rising demand driven by the growth of raw material and agricultural trade.
The Frankfurt-based freighter operator will introduce an additional weekly Boeing 777 freighter service to both Buenos Aires in Argentina and Curitiba in Brazil as part of its summer schedule. With this update, Lufthansa Cargo will operate four weekly flights to South America, including two to each destination.
The airline stated that these added services are the result of more efficient scheduling and not due to reductions in other routes.
“Argentina continues to be a key player in the South American trade network, thanks to strong export sectors such as agriculture, energy, and raw materials, despite a volatile global economy,” Lufthansa Cargo shared in a press release.
“Alongside countries such as Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay, which are globally recognized for their raw material and agricultural exports, the region is becoming an increasingly important hub for intercontinental trade. At the same time, demand for high-value imports such as machinery, electronics, and automobiles is also rising. Lufthansa Cargo is addressing this demand by offering reliable connections from Europe for these sensitive goods.”
The airline emphasized its commitment to long-term partnerships in South America, a region it views as having significant strategic potential. The updated flight routes will also include stops in Viracopos and Montevideo.
In addition to the freighter services, Lufthansa Cargo provides up to 20 weekly flights from Frankfurt and three weekly departures from Munich to South America. These are complemented by additional cargo capacity available in the belly holds of passenger aircraft within the Lufthansa Group network.
Ashwin Bhat, Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Cargo, highlighted the region’s importance, stating, “South America is and will continue to be a key growth market for Lufthansa Cargo. In the perishables sector in particular, we have cultivated strong customer partnerships over the past 30 years.”
Bhat made these remarks during a naming ceremony in Argentina for Lufthansa Cargo’s newest Boeing 777 freighter, delivered last year. The aircraft was officially named Hola Argentina.
