Liege Airport has reported a strong performance in the first half of 2026, reinforcing its status as one of Europe’s leading air cargo hubs. The airport recorded an increase of more than 11% in cargo tonnage, underlining its continued growth trajectory and strategic importance in global logistics.
During the first six months of the year, cargo aircraft movements rose by 3.3% year-on-year, reaching 14,354 compared to 13,892 in the same period of 2025. However, the growth in cargo volumes significantly outpaced flight activity, with total tonnage climbing 11.3% to 697,816 tonnes, up from 626,690 tonnes last year.
Despite this overall growth, the pace of expansion slowed in the second quarter, with tonnage increasing by 7.5% compared to a stronger 15.6% rise in the first quarter. This shift reflects ongoing improvements in operational efficiency, allowing the airport to handle higher volumes while optimising capacity and supporting international trade flows.
Exports emerged as a key driver of growth in the first half of the year. Outbound cargo volumes surged by 19%, far exceeding the 6% increase recorded for imports. This highlights the growing reliance of European businesses on Liege as a strategic logistics gateway to global markets.
The strongest export growth was seen on routes to Asia, which rose by 17%, and North America, where volumes jumped by an impressive 51%. In contrast, import growth remained subdued, increasing by less than 1% compared to 2025.
Overall, the figures confirm Liege Airport’s position as a dynamic and resilient cargo hub, continuing to expand its role as a vital European gateway connecting global supply chains.
