LATAM Cargo Group and Quick Cargo Service Advance SAF Adoption

LATAM Cargo Group and Quick Cargo Service have signed an agreement to incorporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into air cargo operations between Frankfurt and São Paulo during the 2025–2026 winter season.

The initiative will run from late October through March and leverages the Book & Claim methodology to allocate environmental benefits across the logistics chain.

Book & Claim Model Enables Scalable Decarbonisation

Under the agreement, LATAM Cargo Group will allocate more than 24,000 litres of SAF, with the associated emissions reductions credited to Quick Cargo Service’s operations.

The Book & Claim model allows companies to benefit from SAF usage even if the fuel is not physically used on a specific flight, helping overcome supply limitations and enabling broader adoption across the industry.

Measurable CO₂ Reduction Impact

The initiative is expected to deliver a lifecycle emissions reduction of approximately 55.8 metric tons of CO₂e, including:

  • 46 tons of CO₂e from flight-related emissions
  • Around 7% reduction in emissions for the specific operation over the 21-week period

The SAF used is produced from alternative feedstocks such as animal fats and can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75% compared to conventional jet fuel.

Driving Industry Collaboration on Sustainability

Cristina Oñate, Vice President of Sustainability and Product at LATAM Cargo Group, said the agreement highlights the importance of collaboration in decarbonising air cargo.

She noted that working closely with customers enables measurable progress in reducing carbon intensity across the logistics value chain.

Patrick Eberhard, Head of Product Management LATAM at Quick Cargo Service, added that strong partnerships are essential to driving meaningful change and accelerating the adoption of sustainable solutions.

Supporting the Transition to Lower-Emission Logistics

With SAF availability still limited globally, initiatives like this demonstrate how coordinated efforts between airlines and freight forwarders can translate climate commitments into verifiable and scalable solutions.

The partnership represents another step forward in advancing sustainable air cargo operations, helping move the industry closer to its long-term decarbonisation goals.
